Don’t Drop the Ball on New Year’s!

December 20, 2008

peachdropMy wildly clever headline is meant to tell you two things:

1. New Year’s is coming up really, really soon. You need to put a plan together soon if you don’t want to wind up sitting at home watching people on TV have all the fun you aren’t having.

2. Although watching the ball drop in Times Square is a New Year’s tradition, there are way more interesting things dropping all over the country, including, but not limited to:

A pickle (Dillsberg, PA)
An Indy car (Carlisle, PA)
A large hunk of bologna (Lebanon, PA)
A massive Hershey’s Kiss (Hershey, PA)

I know, what’s up with Pennsylvania and wacky traditions?

A big cheese (Plymouth, WI)
A mossbunker fish (Point Pleasant, NJ)
A fish named “Captain Wylie Walleye” (Port Clinton, OH)
A sardine (Eastport, ME)
A conch shell (Key West, FL)

There are plenty more crazy things going on around the country. So instead of trying to get a room in New York City for New Year’s – which is next to impossible by now – try out a new place and start a new tradition with your friends.
